Sun Moon Star

In front of the Yadanar Manaung pagoda is situated a small and cosy restaurant named Sun Moon Star. This lovely family is preparing some very fine Indian food. We were really impressed. You can eat also vegetarian, Asian and Burmese food.

Look no further, a excelent kitchen with some very fine flavors is found.

Schoolkids come there to eat lunch in the afternoon. At the background you will enjoy the meditative sounds of the bells of the pagoda's crown.

Inside the restaurant there is a "home temple". Sacrifices in the form of soda's, coconuts and bananas are lying between the flowers in front of Buddha. Be aware that there is no electricity at daytime. So what they serve is limited but what they cook on fire is also very nice and tasty. Come after 18:00 hrs to enjoy full power.

The sweet daughter will take you're order with a big smile. A picture taken of you is a possibility. Take one back :)

There is a big bag in the restaurant full of big papadam. People of the village come often to take a few. A bamboo straw in the middle of the papadam makes it easy to carry. We had a nice chat in the restaurant after the whole family came to present themselfs. At the side of the restaurant is a pond with small fish. People come to feed the fish. From the bridge you can reach a lovely buddha.

Sin Yaw Shan Restaurant

This restaurant , opposite the market, we visit multiple times. The atmosphere is very pleasant and cosy. It is also quite busy. The thoughtfull staf will arrange a table for you when the restaurant is full. Try a fresh ginger and lime juice, that's a healthy punch in the face, or try a nice made cocktail with fresh juice. If you need to go the toilet, somebody will show you the way and checks first if the toilet is clean. Then they wait for you at the door to handover you a cleansing tissue. The ultimate service.

The professional owner will make sure that you'll have a great diner. He is very good to his staff and his guests and he has got a lovely wife. If you look for a nice cake or pie, ask the owner. He has a friend in town that is a well respected pastry cheff. His cakes and pastries are very nice :)

You can talk to the owner about everything you want to know about Nyaungshwe.

The special Shan style grilled whole fried fish or the Inle lake fish curry with tomato and local spring union is a must taste. The recepy of the cripy bean salad is straight imported from heaven and accompanied with a big bottle of Mandalay beer nothing can go wrong.
